15 completed assignments will count as 5 credits

Of the 18 assignments, 15 correctly completed assignments will earn you 5 credits (I am giving you a free pass for 3 assignments). That means that 3 assignments equals 1 credit (5 credits =
5 x 3 assignments = 15 assignments). If you only complete 3 assignments, then you only earn 1 credit and a C-. 6 assignments equals 2 credits and a C-. etc. In order to earn an A, you must complete 15 assignments.

You have until Friday, March 24th at 2 pm to submit your assignments. At that point, I will calculate your grade/credits earned and submit them.

YOU MUST FOLLOW THE CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING AN ASSIGNMENT TO ME IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR AN ASSIGNMENT.

In order to receive credit for an assignment

There are specific things that need to be done in order to receive credit for an assignment. There is a post that details the things that need to be done. Read that post and follow those directions.

The word "I" is always capitalized. If you type the word "I" in your post and it is not capitalized you will not receive any credit for the post. Plagiarism is not acceptable. If you plagiarize (steal) any part of any critical review assignment it will not count.

How to Get an A in this class

Walk around progress reports were completed yesterday.  The grade you received may have been higher than what you deserved based on your current completed work.  The following are a list of things that must be done if you intend on earning an A and 5 credits at the end of this trimester.

1.  Complete every assignment.  Posting an assignment on your blog is not completing it.  You must  1)  comment on the assignment's entry here at www.walskefilm3.blogspot.com telling me that you have posted it and that it needs to be graded.  Once I have graded it, (if necessary) I will comment on your entry telling you what needs to be done to get credit.  2)  Make the changes/corrections I told you to do and comment again telling me that you have made the corrections.  3)  When you receive a comment from me saying "assignment done,"  then and only then will you get credit for a completed assignment.

2.  Every assignment (blog entry) must have a title.  Each title must include the assignment number (except for the Seinfeld reviews).  Also include your rating of the film based on 0-10.
examples

# 8- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button  (10 out of 10)

Assignment 5- Serendipity (8 out of 10)

Adding your rating of the film is new.  This means that you will need to revise the titles of all of your previous assignments.

3.  Every assignment except when told otherwise needs to be at least 250 words long.

4.  These critical review assignments are not summaries of the films.  The majority of your review (approximately 90%) needs to consist of your specific opinions of the film.  Specific details from the film are included to justify your opinions not to tell the story of the film.

5.  Do not waste words about "you should go and rent this," etc.

If you have read and understood this entry, then comment on this post right now telling me "I understand what is expected of me in this class."  If you need further clarification about anything in this class, then make sure that you speak to me about it.

If you do not comment on this entry, then you will have failed at following directions.

As always, write in complete sentences using correct grammar, proper capitalization and punctuation. Use spellcheck. Read your entry from your blog after you have published it. Revise any errors that you might find. Then, post a comment on this entry telling me that you are done.

Missing Assignments due to Being Absent

If you are absent on the days that we watch movies in this class, you will have to make up  the missing assignments in order to get 5 credits.

You must watch the entire film for your critical review assignments to count.  If you miss even 1 class period, then you must  watch the film on your own (renting it, library, netflix, etc.).

Another option to makeup a missed assignment is to see a new film at the theater and write a critical review of it.

For example

If you missed any part of the Karate Kid and you chose to do another new movie instead of watching the Karate Kid on your own, your entry would look like this.

Title-  Assignment 3- Avatar critical review (makeup assignment)

Then at least 250 words reviewing Avatar.

Assignment 3- Critical Review of The Karate Kid

First, we watched the trailer for the upcoming movie remake called the Karate Kid (2010)starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Then, we watched the original Karate Kid (1984) starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita.

Write a critical review of The Karate Kid. Once again, DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE MOVIE. Write no more than 3 sentences describing the plot of the movie. The rest of the critical review will be your specific detailed opinions about the movie using details from the movie to support your opinions.
This entry needs to be at least 250 words long.  As always use proper grammar, sentence structure and use spellcheck.

Assignment 2- Compare and Contrast

Before the break, we watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Both films are based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.

In at least 250 words, compare and contrast the two films.  Obviously, there are different actors playing all of the roles, so don't write about this as a difference.  Focus on similarities/differences in the story (plot), characters, and the overall tone of each film.

Since, both movies are based on the same book focusing on the differences in this blog entry would be the best strategy.  In the final paragraph of your entry, write about which film you feel is better and why.

As always, use proper grammar and  sentence structure.  USE SPELLCHECK.  When you are finished post a comment telling me to grade your entry.
